softly into that dark knight

I didn’t rush out and buy a ticket for the first screenings of the Dark Knight and maybe I should have. Like a band-aid which has to be removed in one sharp tug, I should have stood in line, jammed myself into some bad seats, and resigned myself to spending most of the run time desperately trying not to murder the people around me.

I do really want to see the film before some one slips up and says something to ruin it for me. I’ve made 2 attempts to see the film now, but when the 7 and 8pm showings are front row seating 30 minutes before the curtain and later showings filling up fast, I find my distaste for the cinema going public outweighs my burning desire to see the film.

If I expected the Dark Knight to be the typical brain dead popcorn amusement ride I expect of other franchises, I’d suck it up and go try and get into the crowd spirit. This is however a movie I intend to savour, and god help the vapid couple with a metric ton of snacks they’re too stupid to blunder their way into while performing a running commentary of the movie if they sit within earshot of me.

It really is a good idea to wait to watch this when it’s not so crowded and you can pick the right seat. It partially ruined my experience to be sitting too close with people snacking and yakking and someone hacking with a bad cough. Why don’t those folks stay home? If you are coughing so much then you can’t hear the movie and no one else can either. Of course, there’s also the yucky factor too. Okay, I’ve vented and digressed for long enough.

I hope you enjoy the Dark Knight :)

Jeanne: Thanks for stopping by! I broke down and saw it last night, 3 rows up from front and centre. We were quite lucky. I don’t have a problem telling ignorant people to pipe down, but everyone was so into the movie. It grabs you at the opening credits and doesn’t let go! Maybe in another month I can manage to get into an IMAX screening, they’re still selling out every day here.
