Meh.

Loved the original (have both miniseries's on DVD, and the first TV series on tape), but this was overwhelming. I gave up on it a few episodes ago. You should check out the book, “V: The Second Generation” written by the creator of the original miniseris, Kenneth Johnson. It ignores “The Final Battle” (which he wasn't involved in) and picks up the story 20 years after the first miniseries.

Maybe… I think the “friendly socialism” variant would be more powerful if we weren’t seeing as much of the V’s machinations in action, leave us to guess at their motives a little bit, really thing the resistance is a bunch of nut jobs, vindicate them later in the series.. that would be fun.

Giving it a chance, still. Didn't find the commentary that ham-handed. I thought it was a interesting "friendly socialism" variant on the traditional Big Brother tale. Controlling humans with hatred has been tried, and has failed (communists, Nazis, etc). Controlling humans by fulfilling their desires is, er, the future in human enslavement.
