Maybe… I think the “friendly socialism” variant would be more powerful if we weren’t seeing as much of the V’s machinations in action, leave us to guess at their motives a little bit, really thing the resistance is a bunch of nut jobs, vindicate them later in the series.. that would be fun.

Giving it a chance, still. Didn't find the commentary that ham-handed. I thought it was a interesting “friendly socialism” variant on the traditional Big Brother tale. Controlling humans with hatred has been tried, and has failed (communists, Nazis, etc). Controlling humans by fulfilling their desires is, er, the future in human enslavement.
